Trauma & Pediatrics Committee

Purpose

The Trauma & Pediatrics Committee is focused on enhancing the quality and delivery of trauma and pediatric care through education, mentorship, and ENA course instructor support. As a state committee, we strive to be a bridge between our local instructor community and National ENA, providing the latest initiatives and updates.

Mission

To advance trauma and pediatric education delivery by ensuring the integrity and quality of ENA courses within the state by auditing, mentoring and supporting instructors. The goal of the trauma & pediatrics committee is to elevate the quality of emergency trauma and pediatric nursing care by inspiring in the classroom and empowering at the bedside.

Key Areas of Focus

  1. Maintain the integrity and excellence of ENA courses within the state: Monitor instructor scores and collaborate with instructors and course directors to remediate if necessary.
  2. Help build a bigger, stronger instructor community: Connect with all Course Directors within the State.
  3. Enhance Trauma Care: Support and elevate trauma care in the state through educational classes, mentorship, and access to resources.
  4. Enhance pediatric care: Support and elevate pediatric care in the state through classes, mentorship, and resources.

Activities and Initiatives

  • Annual Instructor Round-Up
We proudly host an annual Instructor Round-Up to bring together Colorado ENA course instructors, course directors, and faculty. This event fosters statewide networking, collaboration, and innovative idea-sharing to strengthen emergency nursing education.
  • Instructor Development & Mentorship
To support the next generation of educators, we host TNCC and ENPC Instructor Courses—offered free of charge to ENA Colorado members. Participation is application-based and selected via lottery to ensure fair access and diversity of experience.
  • Stop the Bleed Campaign
We are committed to expanding awareness and reach of the Stop the Bleed initiative. By increasing the instructor pool across Colorado and integrating this campaign into our Annual Instructor Round-Up, we aim to equip more communities with life-saving skills.
  • SEMTAC / CDPHE Collaboration
We continue to work alongside SEMTAC and CDPHE to gain recognition of the TNAC course as an approved education option for Trauma Designation. Our goal is to implement TNAC courses statewide to support trauma readiness.
  • Pediatric Emergency Readiness
In alignment with the CO Pediatric Emergency Readiness (COPPER) initiative, we provide tools and resources to support its adoption across the state. Our pediatric-specific goals also include organizing injury prevention campaigns and delivering targeted education at Colorado conferences to promote safe, effective pediatric emergency care.

Impact

The Trauma and Pediatrics Committee’s work has most significantly impacted the Colorado ENA course instructor community by providing resources and the latest updates from National. We have aided 3 nurses in achieving TNCC instructor status at no cost to them through the state instructor course, with a projected 6 new ENPC instructors for 2025. We are excited to make a greater imprint as we grow and take on additional projects, including outreach education and establishing TNAC in the state.
